Broke and Waiting Is Not the Same as Stopped
Day 1,276 did not go according to plan — there was no plan it could go according to. The money hadn't landed, the body was beat up and hurting, and the road said: not today. A forced rest day in the Francis Marion corridor near McClellanville, South Carolina, in a tent, broke and in pain, waiting to get paid. And something happened out on a trail this week that put him down for two days and nearly cost him more than miles — that story is not for a caption; it belongs to the book.
So he did what the Code says. He built.
From that tent this week: FROM THE VAULT launched with four films in three days, alongside the Night One film and a lesson a day, every one published across every platform. The books — OUTGROW YESTERDAY, Book One the memoir and Book Two The R.O.D.A. Transformation Blueprint — took their final form, covers locked. The website was rebuilt around new key art and a gallery that rotates daily from an archive reaching back to 2019, and Ask RODA Anything went live: strangers can now ask a real question, join the list, and get a real answer. The domain rideordieamerica.com was secured. The Road Code group kept growing. And underneath all of it, the number that makes the rest believable: 66,501.6 documented miles, receipt by receipt.
That's the lesson, and it's not really about a bicycle. A forced day off is not a stop. Broke is a condition, not a verdict. Whatever your version of the tent is — the waiting room, the couch, the bench — the question is the one he asks the camera: what do you do? You build your business. You build your body back. You build the next version of your life with whatever is already in your hands.
"Bigger, better, stronger, harder, faster. Watch out world. I'm coming. We're coming. Let's build it together."
The mission runs on miles — and on the people who believe in them. Fuel it at rideordieamerica.com
